DEUX PAS VERS L'AUTRE

2PVA : THE MANIFESTO

MORE THAN A TRIP, A HUMAN EXPERIENCE with STRONG VALUES

Sagres February 5, 2018 - IstanbuL February 20, 2020

THROUGH THE MANIFESTO, 7 KEY POINTS TO UNDERSTAND OUR HIKING JOURNEY OF EUROPE!

Deux Pas Vers l'Autre is above all an incredible European adventure. A project both human, sporty and slightly crazy. Thru-hiking Southern Europe on foot to meet its inhabitants.

Our journey on foot lasted 746 days, we covered more than 10,000 km through 16 countries: a unique crossing of Europe during which we crossed more than a hundred parks and nature reserves.
What brings together or differentiates these countries with such strong identities? How do we live today in the Mediterranean Europe? Will making encounters be as easy everywhere ?

THE GOALS BEHIND THE PROJECT

2PVA was born from the encounter of two travelers who believe in another way to discover other horizons
The objectives of this crossing of Europe are :

  • Encouraging the practice of hiking and highlight its benefits for the body and mind as well as its eco-responsible dimension
  • Enhancing the natural heritage and launch actions to raise awareness of its preservation

  • Highlighting the cultural, tangible or intangible heritage of Europe

  • Promoting a more modern conception of the relationship between man and nature and between nature and technology

TWO STEPS TOWARDS OTHERS

A JOURNEY ON FOOT TO MEET THE OTHER

"It is a chronicle of our times; it is a witness to human relationships, traditions, globalization, climate change, social differences, connection and adaptation, pollution, primitive human goodness..."

10,000 KM OF ENCOUNTERS

Far from the cities and from our comfort zones, our goal was above all to meet the other, this European neighbor about whom we knew so little but with whom we thought we shared a lot.

Throughout the journey, we invited hikers from all over the world to join us, to share with us and to enrich this European experience with their own.

How do we live? What are our differences? How are we alike? So many questions to which we found answers along the way.

relearning to explore

For centuries, man has been exploring, travelling, discovering. From the North Pole to the South Pole, from space to underground, the Earth has been explored from every angle. But what is "exploration"? Is it about breaking records or trying to accomplish what has never been done before?

We think that exploring is above all a posture. That of accepting the unknown. Our unknown. Whether it is geographical, climatic, circumstantial or human, is it not always subjective?

One thing is for sure, it is there, in front of our eyes. The other culture, the other point of view, the other part of us that expresses itself in a new situation... The feeling of exploration that we feel when we face it is at hand, no matter what has been done before.

This experience of freedom and sharing is what has enriched us the most.

EXCLUSIVELY ON FOOT

going on foot is not a vain choice, it is a posture of freedom, vulnerability and contemplation

WALKING IS THE OLDEST WAY TO GET AROUND

Walking allows you to immerse yourself in the natural environment without intermediaries and gives you a unique feeling of freedom. You can go anywhere on a hike and especially avoid roads. No path is too narrow or too rough, almost no mountain is inaccessible.

On foot, we don't "go" from one place to another. All the kilometers are part of the journey, we discover every meter along the way.

By excluding all means of transportation, we move at the pace of our body and nature and reduce our carbon footprint to its strict minimum.

SOUTHERN EUROPE

The world is vast and technical progress allows us to go further and further.
But what do we know about our own continent?
Europe can be defined in a thousand ways: economic, political, social... Our definition is above all cultural and geographical. We are going to discover Southern Europe, the one that borders the Mediterranean and part of the Black Sea, the one of the Latin and Slavic languages.
In addition to the cultural richness of rural Europe, we enjoyed the unspoiled nature by crossing more than 120 parks and nature reserves.

WITH SOME ROOM FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

more than A challenge

#1kgfortheplanet

It is the bet we make to take advantage of this crossing of Europe to make an action for the planet. It is also the universal challenge that we are launching to all hikers and nature lovers.

In our bags, we carried the garbage collected along the way until we could find trash containers. Throughout this journey through Europe, we collected hundreds of kilos of garbage abandoned in the nature.

SHARING

AT THE HEART OF THE PROJECT
With the people we met along the way, those who came to walk with us, those who followed this adventure on the internet and even between the two of us, sharing was part of each of our days. Sharing a beautiful story, a meal, a tent, a piece of the road, a hardship, all of this only made each moment more intense.

One of our missions is to virtually embark all those who could not undertake such a journey. Technology can open many doors and sharing this adventure with people from all over the world is a great example.
